A recent addition to golf in the Highlands, but since it opened in 2009 Castle Stuart has earned a reputation as offering one of the finest rounds in the world. As the venue for the Scottish Open between 2011 and 2013, it has welcomed some of the sport's biggest names who have been blown away by this links course.

Set over 7,009 yards on the shores of the Moray Firth, the course serves up striking views of Highland landmarks. The first four holes and holes 10-12 are literally on the sea; holes 5-9 sit atop an old sea cliff; while the final six holes have the highest elevations and feel like the balcony of this stunning golfing theatre.

It delivers a performance that's a fair test of golf that intrigues, engages and is punctuated with a little mystery.
