Since the late 18th century, golf has been played on the links land of Kingsbarns. It has been interrupted though by a farmer ploughing the land to grow crops and the military commandeering it during World War II.

Designed by American Kyle Phillips, today's 18-hole, par 72 links course is a more modern affair, only opening in 2000. Running to a mammoth 7,181 yards, Kingsbarns has wide, open fairways that roll over undulating ridges and hollows. With a good mix of long par 5s and short par 3s it throws down the gauntlet to even the keenest golfer.

Stretched out along the Fife coastline, nearly every hole provides dramatic views of the North Sea. Although a youngster in golfing terms, Kingsbarns has earned a reputation that sees it frequently mentioned alongside some of the world's greatest courses.
