Ballater Golf Club nestles in one of the most beautiful parts of Royal Deeside. Lying in a circle of hills, and with several holes close to the River Dee, the course offers a round with glorious views.
Founded in 1892 as a nine-hole course, it was extended to 18 holes in 1905. To celebrate the course’s extension and the creation of a new pavilion, a match was staged the following year between well known golfers James Braid and Harry Vardon.
A mixture of parkland and heathland, Ballater is a slightly undulating, medium length course. The ancient river terraces formed on the floodplain give the course a distinctive style and make for interesting play. For sheer scenic splendour the 414 yard, par 4, 11th hole takes some beating.
